The Speed Shop and the Saab shop, both housed together, have once again smashed into each one another. Our drive for Speed and love for Saab has given birth to our latest creation – SonaBusa! What is SonaBusa you wonder? Its the merging of a 1973 Saab Sonett chassis and a Suzuki HyaBusa 1300cc 200hp engine and transmission. In addition to converting it to RWD, the goal for the SonaBusa is simple yet tricky. A 40 MPG, 200+hp RWD Saab under 1500# wet. We believe this should be a very interesting combination for a positive power to weight ratio. So far the project is moving forward at a surprisingly fair pace. The engine and transmission fit in better then expected and the rear end install is seemingly just as easy. Suprisingly mounting points are lining right up and modification for installation has been minimal to what was expected. Within a week we expect to have the SonaBusa sitting back on its four tires with the new rear suspension mocked up.
The process takes time, creativity and a mindset that thinks outside of the box. The same type of mindset that Saab, the Brand, carried for many years until a failed attempt by GM to homogenize the Saab brand into a mass production.
